Listed on Podcast Alley January 29th, 2007

podcast_alley_logo2.gifYou should be able to now find Acoustic Brews listed on Podcast Alley.

Adding your podcast to all the podcasting sites really seems to bring the traffic in. I have seen a spike in downloads/listens for the last few listings I have added. I hope Podcast Alley goes the same.

Cheers,

Ed

Podcasting Setup January 29th, 2007

I thought I would post my current setup while I am working on the next show. My system consists of a iMac G5 at the heart of my setup with two (160GB and 250GB) external firewire hard drives. For speakers I have a set of the KRK Rockit 5s. A PreSonus Firebox handles my mics and instrument into the iMac. I try to write and record some of my own songs and the Firebox give me example what I need with either two mics in or one mic and one instrument.

For the ultimate control while using GarageBand to record everything I have a M-Audio iControl. I am finding the iControl saves me time and mouse click when creating my shows. I really was not sure about the iContol before I bought it but now I can’t work without it. My microphone is a AKG Perception 200. I have the Sterling Audio PF1 pop filter. I am using the AKG HP40 headphones. They are pretty cheap headphones but they do the trick.

I have also put up a tapestry that my wife picked up at a garage sale since I am talking directly into a wall. I am thinking about having some sound deading acoustic material I have left over from my home theather put into it. The wall hanging actually fits into my bar that is directly behind me pretty well.

New Microphone & New Brews January 24th, 2007

CRW_8287.jpgTonight I picked up my new microphone. I ended up getting a AKG Preception 200. Everything I have read about it has been good. And the price, well, you can’t really beat it for the quality. I hooked it put and started testing right away. It is like night and day compared to the Shure PG58 that I used on the first two shows.

CRW_8280.jpgFor starters I don’t have to have my lips on the mic to pick anything up. I can be 2 feet away and talk at a normal voice level and it picks up great. The one thing that was really bugging me with the PG58 was that it was considerably different if I was 2 inches from the compared to 6 inches from the mic. And a foot from the mic? Forget about it. So my levels were all over the place and it took too much time to adjust in post production. That shouldn’t happen any more. I think that will make me more comfortable speaking. More natural I guess. I also picked up a pop filter for times when I am closer to the mic. No more pops when I say words that begin in P.

And if the day just couldn’t get any better my subscription to the monthly beer club came today. My wife called me at work and “asked”, “What did you order now Ed!”. I said, “what are you talking about?” As I tried to think really hard about what I did order. I couldn’t really remember so I asked about box. She said it was three big boxes.

Now I am thinking really hard what I ordered.

So I told her to open it up. It was my first monthy beer shippment. But then I thought three boxes? Something was not right. I had her open them all up. It was three versions of the same 12 pack from the club. Something was really not right.

After I got home from work I called the monthly beer club and thought I would be mister nice guy and tell them they messed up the order. I did look at the credit card before I called. They charged me for three and then refunded me for two.

I finally got through to someone and told them their mistake. I would be happy to send them back if they paid the shipping. The nice female on the phone said, “Our mistake, I hope you enjoy them.” I said thanks and hung up before she changed her mind.

Then I got off the phone and started to think. Did they know about Acoustic Brews? Did they just give me the hook up because of the show? I guess we will never know. But I will give them a good plug on Show #3, you can bet on that! Who knows, maybe I will start getting free cases all the time!

CRW_8288.jpgI am really looking forward to getting the next show going. The new microphone is going to make a big different on sound quality. The 36 free beers can’t hurt either or can they?! I guess you will have to wait for the next show to find out.

Cheers,

Ed

Podcast #2 January 23rd, 2007

This is the second installment of the podcast. I am getting better, and quicker, but it is still a little rough. Yes, I know I need a pop filter still. I hope to have that and a new microphone by the next show!

Event232.jpgI review several Goose Island beers including Killgubbin Red Ale, 312 Urban Wheat Ale, and their India Pale Ale. Still no international beer on the show yet. I have some coming and they should be arrive before show #3… I hope.

I also play music from The Josh Davis Band, Axiom to Zeal, Cains Edge, Dylan Donkin, Edwin Derricutt, Finding Virginia, and Justin Roth.

As always I appreciate any comments that you have about the show. If you have any suggestions on a beer to review or music to play please let me know. Don’t forget to subscribe on iTunes as well!

Cheers, and I hope you enjoy the show.

Podcast #1 January 13th, 2007

Well, here it is. The first Acoustic Brews podcast #1. This is pretty rough but, hey, it is the first one. Please forgive all the pops and “ah” and “ums”.

On this show you will hear Atomsplit with Resolutions Six, Acoustic Rosh with Colorado Song, Justin Gordon with Holocaust Girl, Audiopharm with Plaid Pants, and Justin Gordon with Hypocrite’s Plea.

In addition to the music I have reviews of two domestic microbrews. They are Stevens Point Cascade Pale Ale and Ridgeline Amber from Great Divide Brewing Co. that is a Scottish Ale. Since this is the first show I only reviewed two beers just so I could get something out as quick as possible. Look for an international beer on the next show for sure.

As always I appreciate any comments that you have about the show. If you have any suggestions on a beer to reveiw or music to play please let me know.

Thanks, and I hope you enjoy the first show.

Acoustic Brews Podcast #1 [36:03m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (563)

Welcome to the Show! January 6th, 2007

Welcome to the Acoustic Brews Podcast. I am in the process of setting up the website and getting ready to produce the first episode of the podcast.

The podcast is dedicated to music and brew. Each podcast will feature about five songs mostly by undiscovered artists. The vast majority of the music you will not have heard of before but if you have then all the better. You can expect to hear some Alt-Country, Country-Punk, Singer Songwriter, and Acoustic jams. I enjoy a wide varity of music so you just never know what you will hear from show to show.

In addition to the music selections I will review 2-4 brews. Most of them will be microbrews, again, that you have probably not heard of. There will be at least one domestic and one international brew reviewed each show. In addition to my own comments about the feature brew I will tell you what other are saying about. I only think that is fair since I am no expert. You won’t hear me bashing any brews since there are too many good one out there to review and taste. If I don’t like something then it won’t make it on the show.

Hopefully you will find this podcast interesting and worth of listening to. Feel free to let me know what you think of the show or if you have any questions about the music or featured brew.
